Embellishment Through Embroidery

Embellishment through the medium of Embroidery, is a deep well that engages and inspires. Using photographic imagery as my primary source I will enhance a feature or thread an idea through the photograph to create an alternative dialogue, whether that be to enhance a feature, or thread a feeling of whimsy through the photograph. I study each picture, looking for what the subject might be thinking, I always look for the stories within the stories. This is a part of who I am, it enables me to find richness in often perceived mundane areas of life. I look for the magic, the surreal the deep humanity and convey it wherever I can... that is the challenge and the gift.

I embroider to expand feeling, form or pattern, with colour, texture and stitch, to tell a parallel story of the image. I am always experimenting with the effects of threads. Using techniques and materials to embroider bold geometric patterns, hopefully taking the eye and mind a little sideways. I love to create emotion or feeling, or simply humour by re-imagining the image through my own lens creating additional layers to the original photograph.
I have been working with paper and threads for over ten years now. I see my artwork as storytelling. Behind every found photograph I work on, I see a new story that can be told. I hope you find a piece that talks to you.
